This is the Novovorontsovka community located in the Kherson region.
In this community stands a tribute to the Kherson watermelon, marked by bullet holes and shrapnel cuts. It has gained international recognition as a powerful emblem of the resilience of the Ukrainian people.
During the initial month of the large-scale invasion, the community faced near-total occupation, with the sole exception of Novovorontsovka, which stood resilient. By the close of October 2022, the Armed Forces of Ukraine had successfully reclaimed the entire area. However, this newfound freedom was quickly overshadowed by intense artillery fire.
The locals have endured occupation, the threat of environmental catastrophe, and relentless shelling from Russian forces. Yet, through it all, they have chosen to stay on their homeland, nurturing their cherished resources: lush vegetable patches, sprawling watermelon fields, and flourishing apricot groves. Following the explosion of the Kakhovka hydroelectric power plant, the community cleverly transformed the calamity into a chance for growth. Presently, the area where the reservoir once stood has evolved into a vast, verdant meadow. Wildlife is making a comeback, and the breathtaking views are truly uplifting.

Програма USAID "Децентралізація приносить кращі результати та ефективність" (DOBRE) - це дев'ятирічна програма, що виконується Глобал Ком'юнітіз (Global Communities) та фінансується Агентством США з міжнародного розвитку (USAID). Програма DOBRE тісно співпрацює зі 100 територіальними громадами (ТГ) у десяти областях України, щоб допомогти їм реалізувати переваги та справитися із викликами, які приносить децентралізація. Програма DOBRE надає технічну та матеріальну підтримку ТГ задля допомоги їм здійснювати урядування відкрито та підзвітно; відповідати на потреби громадян; підтримувати активну залученість громадян до прийняття рішень та вироблення політик.
Підтримка, що надається через Програму DOBRE, охоплює різноманітні сфери, включаючи стратегічне та просторове планування, фінансове управління, надання муніципальних послуг, місцевий економічний розвиток, а також зміцнення потенціалу органів місцевого самоврядування. Окрім цього, програма приділяє увагу практикам доброго управління, гендерно орієнтованим ініціативам та молодіжним політикам. Протягом 2022-2025 років DOBRE планує напряму співпрацювати з не менше ніж 60 територіальними громадами України, щоб підтримати їх у подоланні наслідків війни, відновленні та стійкому розвитку. У консорціумі виконавців Програми DOBRE партнерами Глобал Ком'юнітіз є Український кризовий медіа-центр (УКМЦ), Фонд розвитку місцевої демократії ім. Єжи Регульського (FSLD/FRDL) та Малопольська школа публічної адміністрації при Краківському університеті економіки (MSAP/UEK) з Польщі.
